This is a reminder. I am adamantly against allowing your cat to roam freely outside. I’m very for indoor only, leash trained, catios, or escape proofed back yards for cats. But if your cat is physically capable of leaving your property on its own where it will face predators, cars, poisons, people with pellet/bb guns, diseases, etc, you are an irresponsible owner of that cat.
I don’t care what country you’re from. No country is completely magically free of any danger to or from your cat. Indoor outdoor cats may be the norm there, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. If your indoor outdoor cat made it to old age, congrats it’s an outlier. As a vet tech both in general practice and in a shelter I see what happens to most indoor outdoor cats regularly. I have photos I can share, and stories.

Keep your cats inside – not just for your cat, but for the sake of all the wildlife outside your door. They’ve already contributed to the extinction of 63 different species, and are pushing even more towards it. Keep your cats safe, and keep the wildlife safe from them. Win-win.
i know that “don’t harass people for being weird, they might be autistic!” is a fairly popular take on here. but as a Certified Autist, i’d like to add that harassing allistic and/or neurotypical people for being weird is also bad, and should not be done

Cats understand “naughty”. In fact I think they’re the only animal who understands it. Dogs know “good” and “bad” but not Naughty. Same with theft. Cats know what theft is. They know when they are thieving and you can see it on their faces. Squirrels are thieves but they don’t know that. They know “take” and “have” but they don’t comprehend what it is to steal. Nor do raccoons or coyotes or any species of rodent. They may participate in theft but they are ignorant of the weight of what they do, the full meaning of it. Cats know what crime is and they do it on purpose.
